Summer Camp

2018 Key Largo Sailing Summer Camp

It’s back and better than ever!  The Key Largo Summer Sailing Camp is open to children of UKSC members and non-members.  This year, we are introducing programs for the youngest sailors ages 5-7 and for older teens ages 13-17.  We are also changing our format to two-week sessions to ensure all sailors acquire a strong command of boat handling and seamanship.

  • Session 1: SOLD OUT!
  • Session 2: June 25th – July 6th
  • Session 3: July 9th – July 20th
  • Session 4: July 23rd – August 3rd

LARGO CONCHS -  Ages 5 – 7
Introduction to Sailing (Half Day 9am to noon)

This is the perfect course to get little ones comfortable on the water and hooked on sailing!  Our Largo Conchs will climb aboard larger sailboats with an instructor with them on the boat at all times.  Through fun and games, lil’ conchs will learn about boating safety, basic seamanship, proper sailing terminology, rigging, and tying knots all while exploring Buttonwood Sound.  Children will be required to bring their own proper fitting life jacket, snacks and/or lunch and a reusable water bottle.

Class size is limited to 6 sailors per boat.

Local Keys Children: $300 per child per two-week session (To qualify for this rate, children must attend a school located in the Florida Keys full-time. FOR LOCAL KIDS ONLY, please complete the following registration form and submit accordingly: Local Kids Sailing Camp Registration)

Non-Local Children: $450 per child per two-week session (Click on this link to sign up: Sailing Camp Registration)

LEARN TO SAIL – Ages 8-13
For Beginners and Intermediate Sailors (Full Day Only 9am to 3pm)

In this course, campers will sail on a variety of sailboat dinghies like the Opti, Sunfish and Zuma.  Campers will be evaluated based on their skill level, age and size.  All campers will learn about the fundamentals of sailing, boating safety, rigging and how to skipper their boats upwind and downwind and all around Buttonwood Sound.  Campers will also enjoy beach swimming, near shore kayaking and excursions to near-by islands.

Local Keys Children: $450 per child per two-week session (To qualify for this rate, children must attend a school located in the Florida Keys full-time.  FOR LOCAL KIDS ONLY, please complete the following registration form and submit accordingly: Local Kids Sailing Camp Registration)

Non-Local Children: $575 per child per two-week session (Click on this link to sign up: Sailing Camp Registration) INTRODUCTION TO C420

SAILING – Ages 13-18
(10:30am to 3:30pm)

The C420 offers young sailors the opportunity to continue their development and enjoyment of the sport once they’ve outgrown Optis and other smaller dinghy boats. The course will teach sailors how to maneuver their boats by controlling the trim of the mainsail, jib and spinnaker sails together.  This is a great opportunity for teens with limited sailing experience to advance their skills and sail with a friend on a faster, bigger boat.

Class size is limited to 8 sailors per session; must have a minimum of 4 sailors per session.

  • Session 1: June 18 – June 29th
  • Session 2: July 9 – July 20th

Local Teens:  $545 per child per two-week session.  (To qualify for this rate, children must attend a middle school or high school in the Florida Keys full-time. FOR LOCAL KIDS ONLY, please complete the following registration form and submit accordingly: Local Kids Sailing Camp Registration)

Non-Local Teens: $695 per child per two-week session.  (Click on this link to sign up: Sailing Camp Registration) (Payment and registration for the Intro to C420 Sailing course must be received two weeks prior to start of session. There is a non-refundable cancellation fee of $175. Please note that the C420 is a two-person boat, therefore, last minute cancellations will adversely impact other sailors registered for the course.)
